Ashley Varghese | Legal Counsel
Dr Ashley Varghese is the Legal Counsel for Impulse NGO Network.
Prior to Impulse NGO Network, Dr Ashley Co-founded Justice and Care, a leading international anti-trafficking non-profit agency. Previously he has worked with International Justice Mission (IJM), Academy for Educational Development (AED)/USAID and liaised with law enforcement internationally to work on cases involving human trafficking, gender based violence and child sex abuse.
A criminal lawyer by profession Dr Ashley went on to complete a path breaking PhD with the School of Law, University of Edinburgh in Human Trafficking and Models of Governing Security.
As former CEO of an anti-slavery Non-Profit, Ashley worked with the Child Exploitation and Online protection command of the NCA, Crown Prosecution Agency, Indian police to pioneer United Kingdom’s first extra-territorial prosecution under the sexual offences act where a travelling child sex offender based in the U.K was successfully convicted to 5 life terms for abusing a nine-year-old child in India.
Ashley also pioneered action research on Governing Security and tackling human trafficking across Europe and South Asia. Governing security look at addressing the needs of security and justice in countries affected by the human trafficking, child abuse and sexual violence as an organized crime.
Over 19 years Dr Ashley has successfully pioneered and implemented successful multidisciplinary strategies that have enabled countries effectively secure and manage their borders, improve child protection and tackle gender-based violence.
