Baseline Survey and Mobilisation for Information of 7 Self-Help Groups in Cane, Bamboo and Woodcraft, in Meghalaya (2002)

Impulse NGO Network conducted a baseline survey to determine the need for setting up self-help groups (SHGs) in Meghalaya. A standard questionnaire was used to conduct interviews with 100 craft artisans (65 males and 25 females) in the East Garo Hills District.

Findings revealed that 71 respondents (and their family members) would be willing to participate in handicraft events and workshops.

The biggest challenge for them was in marketing their finished products and lack of transportation.

These revelations enabled INGON to prepare a proposal for an intervention programme approved and implemented with the assistance of the government.
